Hello reader,
I started volunteering to feed people without homes at a local church with my grandmother a few months ago. It’s nice to help others and it’s always good to be an active part of your community. It also helps with the CONSTANT GUILT I feel for living comfortably in a world where so many live with so little, but I know that part of my motivation may be somewhat selfish.
Test Artboard I made to see how different materials looked on the artboard:

Recently I set up a communal artboard which anyone could draw or write on, with some rules. I was inspired by an artist I saw at an art fair who set up a canvas and let people paint on it with markers. I noticed how the piece got passerbys excited to do art and participate in a community event. I wanted to recreate these feelings in, and share the joy of artistry with those who have fewer means than me.
I wrote some rules for the artboard. I initially tried to get people to sign a sheet of paper if they drew/wrote on the board so they could be credited for their part in the piece, but that didn’t pan out. I also considered banning all hateful language, but if someone wanted to write about how much they hated Donald Trump or Joe Biden, then I thought they should be allowed to do that. But I still didn’t want people drawing swastikas on the communal artboard, so I tried to ban discriminatory symbols.
Introduction I made for the Artboard:

In the end, this is what the Artboard looked like. I know it’s a new thing so people won’t be used to it yet, but I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t hoped more people would draw or write on the board. At the same time, I like how it turned out and I look forward to seeing how the next artboards will look.

I know what I do isn’t much, but I do hope it helps at least a few people…
Anyways, thanks for reading this blog post, have a good day.
